What SEO HERO actually does

Where SEO HERO is better
- Track record. 4.9 across 171 reviews, and the Built for Shopify badge, which is Shopify's own assessment of performance and integration quality. We have neither yet. If your rule is "nothing unproven," that is a good rule and it excludes us.
- Keyword control. If you have a keyword strategy and want it applied across every image, SEO HERO is designed around doing that, with templates and a list of terms to exclude. Keyword injection is not on our published plans.
- Free and cheap tiers. 100 descriptions free, then $5 a month for 150. There are also one-time credit packs if you would rather not subscribe at all.
What is actually different
SEO HERO starts from your keywords. Image Voice starts from the photograph.
That is not a quality judgement about SEO HERO; it is a different priority, and Shopify's own guidance is worth reading on it. Shopify recommends working keywords in "only where they describe the image, such as product type, color, material, model name, or use case," and notes that stuffing them in is treated as a spam signal. Automatic injection can sit on either side of that line depending on the keyword and the image. The only way to know which side yours are on is to read them.
Image Voice looks at each image and writes roughly 125 characters describing what is in the frame — never generated from titles or filenames. Before writing anything, it grades the alt text you already have as missing, junk, weak or good, with a sample you read yourself.
Two smaller differences, from the listings:
- Undo. SEO HERO offers "backup and restore your alt text" on its Premium ($15) and Premium Plus ($35) plans. Image Voice keeps a 30-day undo on every plan, free included.
- Languages. SEO HERO's listing is in English and does not say which languages it writes in. Image Voice writes in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese.

If your descriptions come back good — describing the image, with the keywords fitting naturally — then SEO HERO is doing what both of us would want, it has the reviews to prove it, and you should keep it.
