Image Voice vs Pixc

Pixc is cheap, it scales further than any other app we compared, and it already does something many alt text apps skip: it looks for the bad alt text you have, not just the missing kind. If your catalogue is enormous and your photography is simple, it may well be the better buy. Here is how to tell.

What Pixc actually does

From its App Store listing, in its own words:

The app scans your store to find missing or poorly written alt text, then fixes everything automatically in bulk. Choose AI mode to generate natural, descriptive alt text from your product data, or Template mode for full control with preset settings.

Two writing modes, and both start from the same place: your product data — titles, variants, the text you already have. The AI mode turns that data into a sentence; the Template mode arranges it into a pattern you set.

That is a real product and a sensible one. It is also a different starting point from ours, and the difference is the whole page.

Where Pixc is better

• Scale. Its Max plan is $100 a month for 25,000 images — the lowest price per AI-written image of any app we compared. If you are describing a catalogue that size every month, Pixc is built for it.
• Entry price for the job. Mini is $8 a month for 500 images. Our paid entry, Keeper, is $8.90.
• It audits too. Pixc's scan looks for "missing or poorly written" alt text, not only empty fields. We would be misrepresenting the category if we implied we are the only app that checks what is already there.

What is actually different

Pixc writes from what you already know about the product. Image Voice writes from what is in the photograph.

For a packshot on white, those are close to the same thing — the product data is the description. The gap opens on every image that exists because the title was not enough: the detail of the collar, the on-model fit, the lifestyle shot, the banner. Product data cannot describe those, because the information in them never made it into the product data. That is why somebody photographed it.

Image Voice reads each image individually and writes what is in the frame, in roughly 125 characters. Before it writes anything, it grades what you already have four ways — missing, junk, weak, good — with a vision-checked sample you read yourself.

Two smaller differences, both from the listings:

• Undo. Every Image Voice change has a 30-day undo on every plan, free included, with a before → after trail. Pixc's listing does not mention undo or rollback. That is not the same as saying it has none — check before you rely on it.
• Languages. Pixc's listing is in English and does not say which languages it writes in. Image Voice writes in the store's own language: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese.

Neither of us has a track record on the App Store yet. One review is not a verdict, and neither is none.

What to do about it

Run the free audit on the alt text Pixc has written. No card, nothing written to your store. It will tell you, on your own products, how much of what you have describes the photograph and how much restates the title.

If the answer is "most of it describes the photograph," your photography is simple enough that product data covers it — and Pixc at $25 for 2,000 images is the better deal. We would rather tell you that now.
